Associate Professor and Associate Dean

Prasanna Rao’s areas of interest are Urban Settlement Studies, Architectural design, Urban governance. He is part of academic since last 9 years. He has presented number of research papers, having worked as a researcher in Urban Research Centre (Founder member), Civic Bengaluru, & CST (Formerly ASTRA – Alternate Science and Technology for Rural Area) IISc, all located at Bengaluru. He has worked on the action planning project “Urban Governance, Civil Society and Local Economic Development” supported by National Foundation for India (NFI) New Delhi dealing with Participatory Governance, Bringing out Citizen’s Charters, Working with Ward Elected Representatives to bringing out Ward Planning & Management tools in Mangalore city corporation and Udupi city municipality, Karnataka.

His action planning project experience (With URC and CIVIC Bangalore) has been published as part of a book (“Peoples Participation in Urban Governance” –Edited by K C Sivaramaskrishnan) by Institute of Social Science (ISS) New Delhi. One of his research paper “Urban Governance, Infrastructure and Role of Architect/Urban Designer in Urban Change” Published for Conference conducted by CAA(Commonwealth Association Of Architect & Institute of Architects Bangladesh) on “Society, Architects and Emerging Issues” in April 2007. He attended a short term course on “Urban Economic Development” conducted by Galilee College ISRAEL under MASHAV Program in 2003. This was held under Ministry of External Affairs and International Cooperation ISRAEL.

He was part of Expert team on Urban Infrastructure supporting NGO TASK FORCE Coastal Karnataka during 2001-2003. Also involved in providing Technical help and strategic support for greater participation.

vHe has an architectural practice specializing in Cost Effective House and Eco-Sensitive Design. One of his projects published under eco friendly architecture in an A+D an architecture Magazine (October 2007).

Currently he is Member BOE (VTU) 2016-17 and Associate Dean PG studies (Urban Design) at the RV College of Architecture.
