Diya Banerjee has completed Bachelor of Architecture from Jadavpur University in 2010 and completed her Master of Architecture in Urban Design from School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi in 2012. Her research interest lies in people’s ‘right to the city’. In her Master’s thesis, she compared two major metropolitan cities, Calcutta & Delhi, through parameters like density, land use and the resultant urban form, access to public transport, attitude towards informal sector, urban governance etc. and analysed how these factors have contributed to their economic inclusiveness.
As a professional, she had worked in reputed firms, simultaneously teaching in Jadavpur University as visiting faculty. As an Urban Designer with a keen interest in cities’ built & cultural heritage, she had been a volunteer for INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage), Kolkata for four years and has conducted several guided walks to generate awareness about Calcutta’s rich built heritage. Apart from teaching, she loves to travel and read.
